Privacy policy
How Common Accounting collects, uses, protects and discloses your personal information — including the tax and financial records you share with us.
Effective October 2024 · Governed by PIPEDA (Canada)Common Accounting Corp (“we,” “our,” or “us” and “CA”) prioritizes the privacy of its clients. All of your personal information and accounting files are kept confidential, with access granted only to your assigned accounting professional.
Your personal records and information are used solely to assist Common Accounting in addressing your accounting needs. We are committed to protecting this information and acting in your best interest.
General data privacy
We are committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal data. We collect only the information necessary to provide our services, and we use it only for that purpose. We will not sell or rent your personal information to third parties.
We commit not to transfer your personal data to any external organizations without your explicit consent, except for service providers who assist us in delivering our services. For example, we may share information with secure data storage providers or email marketing platforms, if you have opted in to receive marketing emails. We have implemented strict access controls and data protection measures to prevent unauthorized sharing of your data. These measures include encrypted transmission of all data submitted through this website, access limited to your assigned accounting professional, and secure electronic document sharing rather than email attachments. We ensure that any third-party service providers we engage also adhere to strict data privacy and security standards.
Information collected through this website
This website collects only what you choose to send us. If you book a consultation, the booking service records the name, email address and details you enter so the appointment can be scheduled and confirmed. If you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address is stored by our email provider so we can send you the mailings you asked for; you can unsubscribe from any message. The website does not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Website analytics and session recording
This website uses Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use the site. Clarity records anonymised information about page visits, clicks, scrolling and general navigation, and may create a replay of a browsing session so we can see where pages are confusing or broken. This is used solely to improve the website.
Clarity masks the contents of form fields by default, so anything you type into a booking form or newsletter box is not captured in a recording. We do not use this data to identify individuals, and we do not sell or share it for advertising. Microsoft processes this information as our service provider; their handling of it is described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
If you prefer not to be recorded, most browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting, and browser privacy modes or tracker-blocking extensions will also prevent it. You can also contact us using the details below and we will exclude you.
SMS communications
Common Accounting Corp may send text messages to clients who provide a mobile phone number, for purposes such as appointment reminders, document requests, tax deadline reminders, and general client service communications. We do not send unsolicited marketing texts.
Consent: by providing your mobile number to us — whether by phone, email, in person, or through a form on this website — you consent to receive service-related text messages from us at that number. Consent is not a condition of any service.
Scope: at this time, our text messaging service is limited to Canadian phone numbers. If this changes to include U.S. numbers, we will update this policy accordingly and complete all required carrier registration (10DLC) before doing so.
Opt-out: reply “STOP” at any time to stop receiving texts from us, or “HELP” for assistance. You may also opt out by contacting us directly at info@commonaccounting.com or +1 (416) 840-3799.
Standard message and data rates from your carrier may apply.
Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law you may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, and withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time. Records we are required to retain for tax purposes are kept for the period the Canada Revenue Agency requires. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
Changes to this privacy policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the effective date at the top of this policy. It is your responsibility to review this policy periodically for any updates.
